Should I email my homework to my professor if I'm not going to class today?

So my english homework is due today but I'm sick and not going to class. Should I send him an email telling him this and attach my homework? I don't mind the absence, but I really want to give him the homework. He has said before "Don't email me unless I email you" to the class. What should I do?
